Technical Theatre:
Div A/B – Any Children’s Play – Must be from a professionally produced or published play; cannot be student written.
Div C – Evita

ALL TECH ENTRIES:
1. Must have Notebook or Folder with Concept Paper and other required information. See Fall Tech Rules
2. Must have at least one designer on the presentation team.

Sets/Lights

C Di v: 1-4
A/B Div: 1-6

Div A Sets/Lights:
1. Design ONE set for one play, using ½ inch scale.
2. No lighting plan is needed, regardless of name of category.

Div B Sets/Lights:
1. Design TWO sets for ONE of the same play, using ½ inch scale.
2. Must have lighting plan for ONE of the sets.
3. Must have overhead chart at ¼ inch or ½ inch scale.

Div C Sets/Lights:
1. Design THREE sets for EVITA, using ½ inch scale.
2. Must have lighting plan.
3. Must have overhead chart at ¼ inch or ½ inch scale.

Costumes/Makeup

C Div: 1-4
A/B Div: 1-6

All Costumes/Makeup Entries:
1. Must have the required number of costumes rendered on paper, including all fully realized costumes (constructed or gathered, not rented).
2. Must include makeup.
3. Must include fabric swatches.
4. Must identify costumes/makeup by name of character and act/scene.
5. Must have all other required items. Check section E3 of handbook.

Div A Costumes/Makeup:
1. Design 3-4 costumes on paper. MAY also have 1-2 of these costumes fully realized.
    If NO costumes are fully realized, MUST have 4 costume designs.

Div B C3-4 costumes on paper. MUST also have 1-2 of these costumes fully realized

Div C Costumes/Makeup:
1. Design 5 costumes on paper. MUST also have 1-2 of these costumes fully realized.

 

Graphics/Publicity

Div A Graphics/Publicity:
1. Must design a poster or flyer (any size).
2. Must design a 4-page program (CANNOT leave space for autographs).
3. Must have a publicity plan of not more than $250, which does NOT include the cost of printing programs or poster.
4. Must have all other required items.

Div B Graphics/Publicity:
1. Must design a poster or flyer (any size).
2. Must design a 4-page program (CANNOT leave space for autographs).
3. Must have a publicity plan of not more than $500, which does NOT include the cost of printing programs or poster.
4. Must have all other required items.

Div C Graphics/Publicity:
1. Must design a poster or flyer (any size).
2. Must design a 4-8 page program (CANNOT leave space for autographs).
3. Must have a publicity plan of not more than $1,000, which does NOT include the cost of printing programs or poster.
4. Must have all other required items.

II

Audition

1 per entry

1. The participant will prepare and present two, two minute monologues. The entire presentation is not to exceed five minutes. One of the monologues must be from a modern play (1920 or after) and one must be taken from a classical play (before 1920). One of these monologues must be humorous, the other must be serious. The combination is determined by the participant or director. A capella singing is permitted in one of the monologues.
2. No material from Shakespeare may be used.
3. No more than two (2) chairs may be used.

For Events III thru VIII, no more than four (4) chairs may be used.

III

Trapped

1. The scene must have 2 to 4 performers.
2. The scene must be a maximum of 5 minutes.
3. Must have someone or something that is trapped, either physically or psychologically.
4. Must be student written.

IV – A  

Open Humor (A Div only)

1. The scene must have 2 to 4 performers.
2. The scene must be a maximum of 5 minutes.
3. The scene from a single professionally produced or published play and must be a scene the author intended to be humorous; it cannot be student written.

IV – B/C

Noel Coward Play (B/C Div)
(Straight Scene)

2. The scene must be a maximum of 5 minutes.
3. The scene must be a straight scene from a single play by Noel Coward.

V – A

Open Drama
(A Div only)

2. The scene must be a maximum of 5 minutes.
3. The scene must be a straight scene from a single professionally produced or published play of dramatic intent; it cannot be student written.

V – B/C

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Plays
(B/C Div)

1. The scene must have 2 to 4 performers.
2. The scene must be a maximum of 5 minutes.
3. The scene must be from a single play that has won the Pulitzer Prize.
    If a musical is selected, may use only the libretto (no singing).

VI

Musical: The American Experience

1. The scene must have 3 to 10 performers.
2. The scene must be a maximum of 8 minutes.
3. The scene must have a capella singing.
4. The scene must be from a single professionally produced or published musical written for the stage; it cannot be student written.
5. Performed scene(s) must reflect the American Experience. Coach must be able to justify the scene(s) used, in case there is any question from Rules.

VII

Large Group Drama

1. The group will consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 participants.
2. The scene is not to exceed eight (8) minutes in length.
3. Must be from a single professionally produced or published play written for the stage; it cannot be student written.
4. Must be a scene of serious intent, not a parody.

VIII

Large Group Comedy

1. The group will consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 participants.
2. The scene is not to exceed eight (8) minutes in length.
3. Must be from a single professionally produced or published play written for the stage; it cannot be student written.
4. Must be a scene where author’s intent is comedic.
